About Us — Sligo Data Solutions

At Sligo Data Solutions, we believe small and medium businesses shouldn’t be held back by repetitive admin, manual spreadsheets, or hours lost copying and pasting information from one place to another. These tasks drain time, create errors, and stop teams from focusing on the work that actually grows the business.

Founded after years of hands‑on experience solving operational and data challenges across the private and public sectors, Sligo Data Solutions was built to bring smart automation, clean data flows, and clear insights to organisations that rarely get access to this level of support.

We specialise in replacing manual processes with reliable, automated workflows that run quietly in the background — saving time, reducing mistakes, and giving your team room to breathe. Through intuitive dashboards and visualisations, we turn everyday business activity into meaningful insights, helping you understand performance at a glance and make confident decisions.

Our mission is simple: to make automation accessible, practical, and genuinely useful for real businesses. No jargon. No over‑engineering. Just solutions that work.

Explore how we can help you streamline your operations with automation support, build smarter workflows, or gain clearer business insights.

Meet Cathal

My career has always been about solving problems, improving systems, and making work easier for the people who rely on them. I began with a BSc in Pharmacology and an MSc in Biotechnology from UCD, and more recently a Postgraduate Diploma in Data Analytics from the College of Computing in Dublin. That combination of scientific training and analytical thinking shaped the foundation of how I approach every project.

From 2015 to 2023, I worked across the pharmaceutical and medical device industry with organisations such as Pfizer, Abbott Diagnostics, and STEMCELL Technologies. These environments demand precision, structure, and continuous improvement — and that’s where I developed deep experience in operational excellence.

I worked extensively with tools such as 6S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardise, Sustain, Safety) to create cleaner, more efficient workspaces; fishbone analysis to identify root causes of recurring issues; and a range of other improvement methodologies including Lean, Kaizen, DMAIC, process mapping, FMEA, and standard work development. These techniques taught me how to break down complex problems, remove waste, and design processes that actually work for the people using them.

Alongside this, I began building Power BI dashboards, automating reporting, and helping teams move away from manual spreadsheets — long before “automation” became a buzzword. I saw firsthand how much time organisations lose to copying and pasting, repetitive admin, and disconnected systems.

In 2023, I joined the HSE as a Data Engineer, where I’ve contributed to high‑impact, publicly visible projects, including work on the HSE Health App. My role focuses on building robust data pipelines, automating manual processes, and turning raw information into clear, actionable insight for decision‑makers.

I founded Sligo Data Solutions to bring this blend of scientific discipline, operational excellence, and modern data engineering to small and medium businesses. Many organisations don’t think of what they do as “data”, but every invoice, spreadsheet, and workflow tells a story — and most of it can be automated.
